Public Health Investment

Public Health Investment

On Saturday, November 18, 2023, the citizens of St. Tammany Parish will vote on an important millage renewal supporting mental health services within our community. The proposition is to renew the Public Health millage at 1.78 mills, which has been in place since 1984, for a 10- year term. The millage generates an estimated $4.4 million to support the Safe Haven campus and jail medical expenses. For a $300,000 home, this $40 annual investment will maintain the current level of care in our community.

What it benefits

-Safe Haven Campus (Operations & Improvements)
-Community Action Agency
-LA Health and Human Services Support

St. Tammany Parish Government maintains the Safe Haven campus, which provides behavioral healthcare for our citizens in need. In addition to the funding currently provided by the Public Health millage, we actively pursue grant opportunities. Currently, we have $12.7 million in grant funds for projects on the Safe Haven Campus, including housing for veterans, building upgrades and other tremendous improvements.
Unfortunately, grants do not cover all of the operating costs.
