The St. Tammany Parish Library presents ARTS ROUND TABLE. The art forms discussed may be music, pottery, literature, film, weaving, architecture, wood carving, painting or any other type of creative expression that a participant considers to be meaningful art. Both appreciators and creators are welcome to be part of a give and take experience.
These are discussions by and for the public. The meeting rules are simple. Treat yourself and others with consideration and respect, and participate in constructive conversation.
The first meeting will address the following questions: What elevates a work to the status of art? What value does art have in today’s world? How does it make you feel? After this discussion a fifteen minute excerpt from a film will be shown and discussed. Before the meeting ends, three people will be selected to present works of art at the next meeting. Presentations may continue no longer than 20 minutes. At subsequent meetings three other people will each present a work of art, and discussions will follow.
The moderator for ARTS ROUND TABLE is Phillip Routh. He has taught in the Orleans Parish and St. Tammany Parish public schools.
The seminar will be offered the first Monday of the month, February through May. The meeting dates are as follows: February 6, March 5, April 2, and May 7, 2012 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Causeway Branch Library.
The event is free and open to the public, and registration is required. Seating space is limited to adults. Light refreshments will be provided. Please stop by the Causeway Branch, 3457 Hwy. 190, Mandeville, LA or call 985-626-9779 to register.
