Residential Mitigation
Residential Mitigation Assistance is designed to reduce the risk to individuals and property from natural hazards while simultaneously reducing the reliance on Federal disaster funds. St. Tammany administers Hazard Mitigation funds awarded by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), through the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), for qualified residential properties within the Parish.

Residential Mitigation Programs:
FMA (Flood Mitigation Assistance)
This program is a pre-disaster program funded by FEMA through the NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program). Recipients are required to have an NFIP Flood Insurance Policy. FMA can be utilized for acquisition, elevation, flood-proofing and local drainage projects.
HMGP (Hazard Mitigation Grant Program)
HMGP is competitive disaster based funding. Funds are only awarded under a Presidential Declared Disaster. HMGP funds can be utilized for acquisition, elevation, flood-proofing, retrofitting and local drainage projects.
