The Department of Engineering's main responsibility is to support  the St. Tammany Parish Government administration by managing public improvement projects that require technical assistance. All public improvements are fully developed and monitored through the stages of planning, designing, and constructing.

The Department of Engineering is responsible for technical review and monitoring of residential and commercial developments. These developments must meet a set of standards that has been adopted by the St. Tammany Parish Government to assure public interest and safety.

The Engineering Department's staff ranges from professional construction, drainage and traffic engineers, professional Land Surveyor and survey crew, environmental specialist, drainage and construction inspectors, land abstractor, engineering interns, and administrative support staff.
