Homeland Security

Develop, manage, coordinate and maintain a comprehensive and effective response to any natural or technological emergency that may occur and poses a threat to lives and property in St Tammany Parish.

Responsible for advising the Parish President, Chief Administrative Officers and Parish Council and Municipalities regarding emergency preparedness activities and operations.

Our authority is defined by the Louisiana Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act of 1993, Chapter 6 Section 709, Paragraph B; Each parish shall maintain a disaster agency which, except as otherwise provided under this act, has jurisdiction over and serves the entire parish.

Duties
  • Develop and implement an All Hazards Emergency Operation Plan.
  • Provide public awareness programs throughout the parish.
  • Provide emergency information and warning to the public.
  • Activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergencies.
  • Participate in drills and exercises involving local, state and federal emergencies.

Dexter Accardo and the staff of the Emergency Operations Center are available for Community Emergency Preparedness presentations. These presentations can be given for church groups, civic groups or school groups, and each is tailored to the individual needs of the geographic areas of vulnerability.
