Planning - Comprehensive Rezoning

St. Tammany Parish Government is reviewing the zoning classification of every property in unincorporated St. Tammany Parish. This two year effort is the implementation of the recently adopted St. Tammany Parish Unified Development Code - Volume 1 (Zoning Ordinance). This Code replaces the present Zoning Ordinance originally drafted and adopted over 20 years ago.

St. Tammany Parish has been divided into 5 Study Areas. These areas will be undergoing a comprehensive review and recommendation for adoption by the Parish Council with a target date for completion of all Areas by the end of 2009.

North East Study Area

The St. Tammany Parish Planning Department made its recommendations to the Zoning Commission at a special hearing on June 25, 2009. 

 

The fourth of five study areas, the North East Study Area is generally bounded on the west by the Highway 59, Highway 1082 and Isabel Swamp Road, on the north by Washington Parish, on the east by the Mississippi state line and on the south by Highway 36. The area includes all unincorporated property northeast of Abita Springs, including the communities of Waldheim, Bush, and Hickory.

 

The Zoning Commission has scheduled public hearings on July 21, 2009 and August 18, 2009 to hear public comment on the staff recommendations.  These two public hearings will be held in the Parish Council Chamber, 21490 Koop Drive, Mandeville at 6:00 p.m.

South Central Study Area Recommendations

The St. Tammany Parish Council officially adopted the South Central Area Zoning Map at the April 2, 2009 Council meeting.  The Zoning Map became effective April 17, 2009.

 

The zoning changes for the South Central Area have been incorporated into the existing Zoning Map which can be found at the following link.

South West Study Area

The St. Tammany Parish Planning Department made its recommendations to the Zoning Commission at a special hearing on September 23, 2008.

 

The Zoning Commission held public hearings on the staff recommendations on October 21, 2008, December 16, 2008, and January 13, 2009.  At the February 10th meeting the Zoning Commission made its final recommendation.

 

The South West Area recommendations are under review by the Parish Council.

The St. Tammany Parish Planning Department made its recommendations to the Zoning Commission at a special hearing on March 18, 2009.

 

The Zoning Commission held public hearings on the staff recommendations on April 21, 2009 and May 19, 2009.  At the May 19th meeting the Zoning Commission made its final recommendation.
