Department of Health & Human Services
The Department of Health & Human Services is the liaison between St. Tammany Parish Government and social service agencies and programs. This includes Louisiana Department of Health, area hospitals, nursing homes, American Red Cross, United Way, Volunteers of America, Habitat for Humanity, and many others.
The Department is responsible for coordinating the Emergency Special Needs Shelter and works with the Office of Emergency Preparedness on planning for the emergency nursing home shelter.
The Department of Health & Human Services coordinates the outreach services of the Parish Mobile Community Information Center. The Mobile Community Information Center travels to out lying areas of the parish to provide information and referral services and has partnered with several other agencies to provide health and human services in rural areas.
The Department of Health & Human Services administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the Entitlement program. This grant is funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and funds projects designed to impact quality of life for citizens of low to moderate income in St. Tammany Parish.
The Department is also responsible for Transportation Operations for the Rural and Urban transit programs in St. Tammany Parish.
