THOROUGHFARE PLAN
Major Streets Plan that includes improvements of existing roadways, coordination with other agencies on collaborative projects, and the design and creation of future roads to ultimately increase travel efficiency. Upon implementation, this plan will take a focused, systematic approach to making Capital Road Improvements. This is a visionary plan that includes improvements of existing roadways, and the design and creation of future roads to ultimately increase capacity, traffic flow and safety.
St. Tammany Parish Government has begun to implement several road projects with the goal of increasing connectivity and drivability throughout St. Tammany. Projects pulled directly from the plan that are currently underway include: the Mandeville Bypass Road, which will link Highway 1088 and Highway 190 near Pelican Park; Harrison Avenue design, which is slated to widen Harrison Avenue, add subsurface drainage and turning lanes to increase safety and traffic flow; the Highway 1077 Connector Road, which will connect to Highway 21 by way of Ochsner Boulevard; and the proposed Seymour Meyers Boulevard Extension to Perrilloux Road in Madisonville, this road will connect Highway 1077 to Highway 1085 at this location. An additional project slated to begin in 2018, is the Stone Street Extension in Slidell, which will enhance connectivity and provide an alternate route for commercial traffic, to divert it from neighborhood streets. In addition various intersection improvements are planned to improve traffic flow in the Slidell area.
The public was invited to review the draft of the plan at the public meeting on Thursday at 6p.m. in St. Tammany Parish Council Chambers at 21490 Koop Drive in Mandeville. The St. Tammany Parish Department of Development and Planning, in coordination with the planning team from Freese and Nichols, Inc., drafted the plan.
