Summary: The Equipment Operator 1 is under the direction of the Group Leader. The Equipment Operator 1 is responsible for job set up and the supervision of others assigned to task. May substitute for lower positions and be required to operate various pieces of parish equipment as assigned.

- Cuts grass with boom mower, side cutter and may operate dump truck style of equipment, may work as flagman or help on road maintenance like pot hole repairs
- Responsible to inspect equipment daily and perform simple preventive maintenance [grease, check oil, water etc.], may assist mechanic as needed
- Required to perform manual labor such as weed eating, filling sand bags, clean catch basins and culverts
- Any other duties as assigned
Competencies: Employee must be able to operate two of the following equipment needed for the position. Specialty equipment includes but is not limited to Grass Cutter, Boom Mower, and Dump Truck. Employee must have knowledge and ability to be trained to operate any piece of parish equipment.
Work Environment: The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads and drainage, muddy areas, swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wet conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, and project preparation and progress reviews.
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
Required Education/Qualifications Position requires a valid Class “A” CDL License and a minimum of one year of related experience. CDL must have airbrake and combination vehicles endorsements.

Salary: $12.18 / Hour
