St. Tammany Parish is closing the Grand Avenue Bridge, in the Lacombe Harbor area, to all traffic effective immediately.  The bridge will remain closed until emergency temporary repairs are complete.

The approach to the bridge has deteriorated since July 6th, when the bridge was closed to all vehicles over three tons.  The further deterioration prompted the total closure of the bridge in the interest of public safety.

The St. Tammany Parish Department of Public Works is in the process of contracting for temporary repairs, estimated at $90 thousand.  The bridge is also on the list for complete replacement when funds become available.

Citizens needing access to Paquet Rd. should use Transmitter Road as an alternate route.
