The St. Tammany Parish Council will convene a special meeting on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, beginning at 6:00 p.m. to sit as Board of Property Assessments Review pursuant to state law.  Appeal hearings will begin the following week.

 

All St. Tammany Parish property owners who disagree with the recent fair market value determination on their property made by the St. Tammany Parish Assessor for property tax purposes have the right to appeal the value determination to the Parish Council as Board of Review.

 

Persons wishing to appeal their property assessments made by the Assessor to the Parish Council should complete the Board of Review Appeal form available at the Assessor’s Office, the Parish Council’s Office, or on the Parish Website at http://www.stpgov.org/topics.php?id=2655 and mail, fax, or hand deliver it to the Parish Council Office by September 27, 2012.

 

The Parish Council Office will notify those who appeal of the hearing date set with the Board of Review.  It is important that appellants bring with them to the hearing documents supporting their claim of the proper fair market value of their property.  Examples of this include a recent property appraisal, an opinion of value letter from a real estate professional, or the assessed value of a comparable property in the area of the property being appealed.
