Demolition Report Card
As 2008 draws to a close, St. Tammany Parish is completing the demolition of homes that were unable to be repaired post Hurricane Katrina. All demolitions must be complete by the end of 2008 to be eligible for demolition cost reimbursement from FEMA.
This is a snapshot of our progress, as of December 1, 2008:
Homes demolished voluntarily 488
Abandoned homes – involuntary demolition 143
Sites closed due to homeowner compliance to court order 293
Current working demolition sites 33
Sites in approval process 20
It is the parish’s intent to have all sites currently in process demolished before the end of 2008. Blighted housing issues after that period will be addressed by the parish’s Code Enforcement division and go through the normal condemnation process.
