Sign Sweep a Success
St. Tammany Parish wants to thank the business community for their overwhelming cooperation in the parish ‘sign sweep.’ While the parish issues over 70 “warning notices” for improper signage along Louisiana Highway 21 between Madisonville and Covington, Airport Road north of Slidell, and Louisiana Highway 59 between Mandeville and Abita Springs, it was not necessary to issue any citations.
“Every notice was addressed by the businesses in the area,” said parish planning director Sidney Fontenot. “The response of the business community was quick and cooperative. All code violations were corrected in a timely manner.”
“I want to thank the business owners for their cooperation in returning to business as usual,” said Parish President Kevin Davis. “After the storm, our businesses needed time to recover and our code enforcement officers were tasked to the rebuilding effort. The cooperation we received in transitioning back to enforcing our sign regulations is outstanding.”
Code Enforcement Officers will continue the sweeps as part of their routine duties. Sweeps of East Gauze Boulevard, U.S. 190 between Slidell and Lacombe, as well as Louisiana Highway 36 between Abita Springs and Covington are underway. Over the next month the officers will move along the remainder of U.S. 190.
Parish Government encourages the businesses to maintain the high aesthetic standards expected by our citizens by keeping temporary signs limited to those permitted for special events through the Planning Office. For more information, please contact the Planning Office at 985-898-2529.
