Tammany Trace Extension into Camp Salmen Officially Opens — Camp Salmen Nature Park now Open Seven Days Per Week

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper, officials from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Friends of Camp Salmen Nature Park and the Bayou Liberty Association officially marked the opening of the Tammany Trace into Camp Salmen Nature Park. In addition, President Cooper announced that beginning today, Camp Salmen Nature Park will open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

“We want to thank DOTD for their partnership on this project. We are happy to officially open the one and a half miles of Trace spanning from Neslo Road to where Melody Lane connects to Camp Salmen. This investment of approximately $750,000 was funded through a combination of grant funding from both DOTD and the Federal Highway Administration, and local Parish funding. It was a team effort,” Cooper said. “We hope citizens will enjoy the extension of the nationally recognized, Rail Trail Hall of Fame — Tammany Trace all the way into the Park.”

“Today is a good day for all St. Tammany Parish residents,” said DOTD District Administrator Larry Sharp. “We are grateful for the partnership with St. Tammany Parish and the federal government to help make this project possible. I look forward to future projects together that will benefit our neighbors.”

With the addition of this extension, the Trace now spans 28.34 miles throughout St. Tammany Parish. To learn more about Camp Salmen Nature Park please visit: www.campsalmennaturepark.org. To learn more about the Tammany Trace please visit: www.tammanytrace.org.
