The Revenue Review Committee, announced by St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper at the October 2020, St. Tammany Parish Council meeting, held their first meeting via Zoom, Wednesday, December 2, 2020. President Cooper welcomed the group, St. Tammany Parish Council Chairman Mike Lorino shared an overview of the goals of the committee, and St. Tammany Parish Chief Financial Officer, Leslie Long, presented an overview of the budget and provided each member with a packet for review.
“With the failure of the renewals of sales tax propositions in 2018, there is a loss in revenue dedicated to the Justice Center and Parish Jail that must be recovered. Our fiscal challenge is real and imminent. This working committee is in place to peel back the onion of our financials to propose real solutions based on a fresh, objective view of our budget, our revenues, and our expenditures,” Cooper said.
Between now and the end of March, 2021 when final recommendations are to be presented to the leadership of St. Tammany Parish Government, the committee will be holding informational meetings and is tasked with fact finding, deliberation of funding options, and development of recommendations.
President Cooper continued “I appreciate the time of our Council, the St. Tammany Corporation, and our committee members. The committee’s focused mission will take time and thoughtful decision-making to complete. The ultimate goal of this effort, combined with our internal work, is to give us applicable remedies we can work with going forward.”
The committee is made up of individuals from several diverse sectors of the community including: law enforcement, public school system, members of the public, the judiciary, business organizations, and the faith community to name a few.
