STAR Transit (St. Tammany Area Transportation)

STAR Transit is a demand response transit system that operates within the boundaries of St. Tammany Parish (service area map). This system is open to all residents within the Parish. The program operates two types of services: rural transportation and urban transportation. It is designed to transport passengers to and between essential services and destinations. This service is non-emergency and provides curb-to-curb service on a call-in, first come first served basis.

Hours Of Operation  
Urban Transit Service: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday
Rural Transit Service: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday
Current Fare Structure  
-- 0 to 10 miles one-way $1.50 ($3 round trip)
--11 to 25 miles one-way $2.50 ($5 round trip)
--26+ miles one-way $4.00 ($8 round trip)
--Elderly Passengers 60+ Ride FREE from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (with COAST registration)

The cost per trip is based on trip to one destination and return to same origin. All additional stops must be scheduled in advance. Drivers do not make unscheduled stops. Trips of 26 miles or greater are only reserved if the schedule permits.

Elderly passengers age 60 and older, the disabled, Medicare cardholders and children between the ages of six and twelve will be eligible for half fare. Children under five years of age are allowed to ride free. Passengers under the age of 17 must be escorted by a person as least 18 or older.

St. Tammany Parish Park and Ride Lots

St. Tammany Parish currently has nine operational park and rides located within the Parish. These park and ride lots were developed to provide convenient locations for commuters/ vanpoolers to park and to provide transfer points for transportation providers.

STAR Transit is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of its services on the basis of a person’s disability under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.  Any person who believes he or she has been subjected to discrimination on the basis of disability by STAR Transit may file a complaint under this procedure.  It is against the law to retaliate against anyone who files a complaint or cooperates in the investigation of a complaint.  The STAR Transit investigates complaints received no more than 180 days after the alleged incident.

Reasonable Modification Policy

Complaint Policy

All complaints regarding STAR Transit service or the Parish's Park and Ride lots, should be made by calling 985-809-2989 or in writing to the St. Tammany Parish Department of Grants-Transit, within 180 days of occurrence.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)

Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Goal:

St. Tammany Parish hereby announces its three-year (FY2023-FY2025) Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Goal of 3% on Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funded projects.  The Parish estimates that, in meeting the overall goal, 2% will be obtained through Race-Conscious measures and 1% through Race Neutral participation.  The proposed goals and rationale are available for inspection between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday at the St. Tammany Parish Department of Grants located at 21454 Koop Drive (Suite 327, Building B), Mandeville, LA  70471 for 45 days from the date of this publication.
