This month CCA turns its attention to Slidell dancer Javier Juarez in the artSPARK Artist of the Month series. Javier Juarez is a former principal dancer with the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. He founded Javier’s Dance Studio in Slidell in 1986, and has introduced scores of students to the joys of many types of dance since then. He teaches Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Latin Folklore, Tap, Salsa and many other types of dance at this location.
Javier teaches groups of students at libraries and schools across our area and instructs on the important influence Hispanic culture has had on the world of dance. He is part of the Cultural Society of International Performing Arts, Inc. and as such introduces students to the cultures of Mexico, Argentina and Spain.
Javier stresses performance as the best way for dancers to develop many aspects of their craft, so his students perform at a wide variety of functions. Concerts, festivals, malls and a school wide recital in June all showcase Javier’s students’ skill.
artSPARK airs Mondays at 7:00 PM, Wednesdays at 6:00 PM, and Sundays at 9:00 AM on Access-TV Channel 10, or streaming live from www.stpgov.org.
